SUMMARY:Night Song
DESCRIPTION:Teri leads Lux Arcana\, the new Night Song treble ensemble\, in singing a fusion of ancient and modern chant with contemplative modal improvisations and choral pieces\, punctuated with periods of silence. \nRevel in the comfort of the darkness and stillness of the church at night. Set aside the demands of daily life.  You’ll leave breathing more deeply and recharged to engage with your world. \nAttending in-person will offer the fullest\, most immersive experience.  If attending in person isn’t an option for you\, Night Song’s offerings are available by live-stream.  Light a candle at home and join us in spirit.  These live-streams will also be available on Night Song’s YouTube Channel for later enjoyment. \nChant: Populus Sion (solo)\nLatin Setting for Compline by Daryl Bichel\nPsalm: Prayer for Peace (Psalm 148) by Patricia Van Ness\nChant: Deus tu convertens (solo)\nHymn: Conditor Alme Siderum by Guillaume Dufay\nMarian Chant: O viridissima virga by Hildegard von Bingen \nJoining Lux Arcana for this performance are Alexandra and Alfreda Antonyraj\, two of my voice students!

SUMMARY:LIVE PREMIERE of Heidi Breyer's Requiem\, Amor Aeternus
DESCRIPTION:Amor Aeternus: A Requiem for the Common Man \n“Much has changed since Aaron Copeland and others celebrated the glory of possibilities for the ordinary citizen. Over the last quarter of a century this exuberant spirit and perhaps naive optimism have evaporated leaving a void in many souls which has become filled with consumerism\, indifference and cynicism. Increasingly\, we have had to replace a moment of joy and love of life with strength and grace in a time of hardship and we are repeatedly called upon to sustain more than our bodies and minds are meant to endure. Yet\, our human spirit continues to prevail. \nIt is by contrast\, in the face of recent adversity\, that we have witnessed the grit\, deep faith\, and moral fiber of the everyday person. Common people worldwide have reinvented themselves and risen to the challenge of unimaginable circumstances\, when systems and resources have failed them. It is my belief that we are experiencing the evolution of mankind where intuition refines our logic and reason. \nEveryday people are the unsung heroes upon whose backs our world often now depends.\nIt is for them I have composed this Requiem.” \n-Heidi Breyer \nThe work\, already recorded on the Winterhall Records label\, will be performed by the Chorus for the Common Man with soloists Barbara Hill (soprano)\, Elizabeth Rogers (soprano)\, and Nathan Halbur (baritone)\, and accompanied by the Boston World Strings and the composer on piano. The conductor is Eugene Friesen.

SUMMARY:WORLD PREMIERE of For Our Common Home
DESCRIPTION:The cross-genre oratorio for choir\, soloists and chamber orchestra\, “For Our Common Home: resounding ecojustice” was inspired by an encyclical issued by Pope Francis in 2015\, Laudato Si’. Chase collaborated with world renowned theologian and author Harvey Cox as text advisor to create this 90 minute\, 23 movement piece. The libretto calls on humanity to acknowledge the urgency of the environmental crisis and work toward building a just and sustainable world. Chase’s new oratorio interprets the text as a call to action through music. “Our goal is not to amass information or to satisfy curiosity\, but rather to become painfully aware to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it.”
